Flashing the motor shield
« on: February 06, 2018, 07:06:46 AM »
Hey folks,

I can't get my head around flashing the motor.  I got the hotspot working on the Mini Pro but since then I've been waiting for the slow boat, having ordered a part from china, thinking this was the right way to connect to the motor shield but it turns out I was confused and ordered one of these ST Link programmers

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-shipping-Smart-Electronics-ST-LINK-Stlink-ST-Link-V2-Mini-STM8-STM32-Simulator-Download-Programmer/32756146997.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.MW4UpX

Which has outputs labelled
RST
GND
SWM
3.3V
5.0V

AND also

SWDIO
GND
SWCLK
3.3V
5.0V

Whereas the inputs on the motor shield tutorial I am referring to https://hackaday.io/project/18439-motor-shield-reprogramming

are labelled

GND ↔ GND

3V3 ↔ 3V3 (or VCC or whatever it is called on your USB2TTL)

D2 ↔ TX

D1 ↔ RX

Any suggestions welcome.

Do I need to order one of these instead?

I'm not quite at your stage yet but really interested to know how you progress. Good luck.

OK,

I've gone ahead and ordered one of the second devices which I think is the right one -

FT232RL FT232 FTDI USB to TTL 3.3V 5.5V Serial Adapter Module

I hope I'll be able to connect it to the motor shield, now that I've already soldered the headers onto it.

Any pointers would be appreciated, especially from you Dave but I guess you're busy with other things and I know how that gets.
Cheers

Does anybody know which one is the right device?
has anybody flashed the controller board already?
